We embarked on the first Bean trip vacation of 2026 to an area that neither Jen nor I had visited before – Lake City, CO. Lake City is located on the other side of the mountain passes from Ouray, Telluride, and Silverton – the town where Cam and Mady got married last year.
I did a little research on the Lake City area after we got lost going to last year’s wedding (took an early turn off from Blue Mesa Reservoir – damn you GPS master). It was a happy mistake as both Jen and I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was at the time. Wasn’t until we reached the general story in Lake City that we discovered we were on the wrong side of the mountain to make it to Silverton – whoops. Another hour back to highway 50 to make the correct turn.
The wrong turn turned out to be providence. What a wonderful trip. Beautiful scenery, wildflowers, wildlife and the wildfire stayed on the other side of those same mountains.
If you get a chance, I highly recommend a visit to the area. I love living in Colorado. It is a privilege many do not appreciate.
